b. 1842, unmarried, no issue. J. Ridgway Moore served on General Birney's staff at
Fredricksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and in numerous other fights. "The
ambulance corps, under the direction of Lieut. J.R. Moore, deserves the very highest
praise." ... "To ... (enumeration of names of several officers) ... Lieutenant
Moore, ambulance officer and volunteer aide-de-camp ... I am under the greatest
obligations for the gallantry, intelligence, and zeal with which their laborious and
important duties were performed." (from reports by Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Sickles, U.S.
Army, commanding Third Army Corps, 1863). In his civilian life after the war, J. Ridgway
Moore was the manager of the Jessup & Moore Paper Company's New York office. He was
also a member of the New York Camera Club and actively promoted photography as a fine art. |
